The Countess of Wessex performed an official opening of the new houses in Gwynn Way on 2nd November 2005; it was an enjoyable event, the Countess took the time to speak to everyone which was appreciated. It was very sad that Peter Gwynn died a few days prior to the ceremony, but it was lovely that Margaret and her family were able to attend. |

The twelve houses in Gwynn Way have been completed as an 'exception site'
scheme; developed on a site outside the village development boundary, where
building would not normally be permitted. The Parish Council agreed to promote a scheme for low cost houses for local people in 2001, there followed an extensive search for a suitable site. The site in Mill Lane was purchased from Rookesbury Estate who kindly agreed to release some of their land for the scheme. Winchester City Council granted planning permission in 2004 and work started on the site in November 2004 and was completed on 29th September 2005. The scheme was carried out by HVHS Housing Group, the design was by Genesis Design Studio and the construction contract undertaken by Norman Wright (Portsmouth) Ltd under the supervision of Denley King Partnership. The cost of the scheme has been met by Capital Grant Funding from the Housing Corporation, and private funding from HVHS Housing Group.

The Sod Cut Ceremony The Development is named Gwynn Way in recognition of the huge contribution to community life made by Peter Gwynn (blue jacket in left hand picture). Sadly Peter died in November 2005, shortly before the opening ceremony. |
