Stan Woodford Photographic Competition 2006
When the 2006 Competition closed at the end of December we had 15 photographs in the adult section and 11 in the under 13 section. Members of the Youth Club provided the junior entries, with one exception. Most adults and children provided two photographs. The photographs were numbered so that they could be judged anonymously and four judges gathered for a photographic feast in the Community Center last Wednesday, 11th January! The judges were Mrs. Angela Clear, Mrs. Therese Evans, (both Parish Councilors), Mrs. Chris Wilkins who represented the Youth Club and Mr. Lindsey Maguire from Studio 6 who knows a thing or two about photography. The judges said that they were pleased about the standard of entry but were saddened that we had not persuaded more people to enter the competition. They were particularly sad that there were no entries from Knowle residents. The photographs covered a mix of activities in Wickham and views about the Village. The VE day parade in May provided a lot of material for the adult photographers, the children mostly concentrated on their friends' activities. The winning adult photograph was entered by Barrie Marson who is therefore the 2005 Cup Holder. To my surprise I was runner up and the judges highly commended an entry by Lorraine and Neil Masson. The Junior Cup holder is Dan Redfern and Lisa McKenner's two entries were judged second and third. You will see black and white versions of these photographs in this issue of the Parish Magazine. To get the full picture you will have to visit Hemming's shop window as Michael Dennis has kindly agreed to display the originals and all the other photographs there. The 2006 Competition is now open. Once again Studio 6 has kindly agreed to support the Parish Council's venture and you can get an entry form, either by visiting Studio 6 in the Square or by sending them an e-mail to print@studio-6.co.uk. We do hope that more people will take up the challenge this year. We would very much like to see entries in the third category open to those between 13 and 18. Remember that your vision of life in Wickham Parish, and that of course includes Knowle, may be captured forever in the Hampshire archive! The Stan Woodford Memorial Cups will be presented to the 2006 winners at the Annual Parish Assembly. Michael Carter
